LIPSTICK LAMPS

Bright, vivid shades of lipstick have been a mainstay in pop art over the years. Inspired by its power and ability to make the wearer feel like the day has begun, Simmons appropriated the lipstick’s iconic tube as a base for the design of a life-size, functional table lamp. With the lipstick as an iconic symbol, Simmons makes a comparison (literally and figuratively) to how the product brightens the wearer’s mood, attractiveness, and complexion. The symbol of a red lip, and its connotations of femininity and power, are further translated into this decorative piece, the only thing more memorable than the shade of lipstick itself is the kiss stains it leaves behind - a motif Simmons has embroidered on the lampshade of each piece.
