Follow the Flash
About
Simmons believes that mythology is an essential element of human society, and the collective stories of one culture can help convey belonging and support. Characters have always been a source of inspiration for many writers, filmmakers, and artists ever since the very first DC Comics featuring the new character archetype - soon known as βsuperheroesβ - was published in 1938.
Throughout her lifetime, Simmons has been collecting toy figures, comic books, dolls, coins, postcards and more. In each of these items Simmons finds beauty, believing that small treasures tell the story of American life.
With βFollow the Flash,β Simmons engages her subject matter in a way that lets images speak their own language. In juxtaposition, they agree or disagree, emphasize or interrupt, as if in animated conversation. The result is a textured and complex commentary, wry and always more than the sum of its parts.
